TV: Lie to Me

Lie to MeFox aired a new show this week titled "Lie to Me." Based on the research of Paul Ekman on the subtle body language we all exhibit when we lie, "Lie to Me" follows Dr. Cal Leightman who, with his training on telling when people are lying, takes on various criminal, civil, and private cases to find out the truth from those unwilling to tell it.

The season premier did a good job of setting the stage for the first season and introducing the characters. Unfortunately, like so many first episodes, the actors are not quite comfortable with their roles, and the writers have not fallen into a track that works. The show is entertaining and shows promise, but it can easily fall prey to mediocrity if the writers or actors are not careful. The show is nowhere on the order of LOST or Battlestar Galactica, but still has the potential to be as successful and entertaining as CSI (at least the early seasons of CSI).

If you like CSI or The Fringe, check out Lie to Me. You may just find your next favorite show.
