This is a review of the book, The Ultimate Proof of Creation by Dr. Jason Lisle. In his book, Dr. Lisle attempts to give a wholly rational accounting as to how fundamental creationism is the only rational conclusion given the evidence that we have. In this review, I will note the (remarkably many) errors that Dr. Lisle made, and explain how these lead to a falsification of the premise that Dr. Lisle sets forth in the book.

Fallout 3 Fix

I’ve been having problems getting Fallout 3, one of my favorite games, to work on Windows 7. After trying all the fixes I could find online without luck, I finally figured out a configuration that seems to work very well This of course is with no thanks to bethesda softworks… they pretty much told me to go frack myself because they don’t support windows 7.

The problem I was having was very frequent freezing and crashing of the game anywhere from one to a few minutes into gameplay. After much fiddling, this is what works for me:

Find your FALLOUT.INI file. Mine was located at “C:\Users\tim\My Documents\My Games\Fallout3\FALLOUT.INI” Once you find it, open it and change the line that says “bUseThreadedAI=0” to “bUseThreadedAI=1”. Right after that line, add one that says “iNumHWThreads=2”.

Next, find your fallout.exe file. Mine was located at “C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\fallout 3\Fallout3.exe” because I bought fallout 3 on steam. Your location may vary. Right click on “Fallout3.exe” and click on “Properties.” Go to the “Compatability” tab, and select “run this program in compatability mode for:” and choose “Windows XP (Service Pack 3).” Select “Disable Desktop Composition.”

That’s it, you’re good to go. Hope this works. If it doesn’t, don’t ask me any questions, I found this by chance. Good luck!

HOLLY GOT HER JOB! *applause*

They finally called her yesterday and let her know that they wanted to hire her. She and I are both excited for the new job and she thinks that she will really enjoy the work. We’ve decided that we are going to go ahead and move to KC now and I will just commute to maryville 3 days a week.

That was the good news. The great news is that she will be able to keep doing her current work at home! They’re getting everything set up so she can work at home and still access all the servers & billing/payroll info.

The best news? We’ll be in KC! … and have fast internet! Now holly and I will never need to fight for the (tiny!) bandwidth again!

District 9

I took the chance to see District 9 this weekend while shopping down in Kansas City. It’s a decent sci-fi flick that kept me interested for _most_ of the film. The one thing that I couldn’t stop thinking about was how much these aliens look like Zoidberg!!!

Squarespace

Well, if you’re reading this, you are now seeing my new squarespace site! I have decided to make the jump and use the awesomeness of squarespace! Wordpress was mangling too many things and I didn’t feel like figuring out how to make a new wordpress theme so my website would have the same theme on all pages. Look around and let me know if anything doesn’t work like it’s supposed to!

Geocaching, A Beginning

Have you heard of Geocaching? If you have a GPS device, you could even participate! According to geocaching.com, geocaching is,

Geocaching is a high-tech treasure hunting game played throughout the world by adventure seekers equipped with GPS devices. The basic idea is to locate hidden containers, called geocaches, outdoors and then share your experiences online. Geocaching is enjoyed by people from all age groups, with a strong sense of community and support for the environment.

Sound like fun? I thought so. Last night I found my first Geocache at N 40° 21.338 W 94° 53.816. Do you know where that is? No? Huh… Well, if you’re in Maryville, you probably don’t know you do know where it is! :) After finding my first cache, I rode my bike a while and saw both the water tower on campus draining, and a SKUNK on campus! Pics are on flickr. (Wordpress is still mangling my pics…)

The BookStop Coffee Shop

Maryville has one coffee shop that I know of that is not on campus. I decided to pay it a visit today to see what it was like. The Book Stop Coffee Shop delivered the coffee and managed to do it well. Situated on main street between 2nd and 3rd, the Book Stop is right on my way to work! They have a decent but simple setup with good coffee and excellent service! As you walk in, you seem to get both the smell of coffee (yum!) and books. The majority of the shop is set up for books and antiques, but there are plenty of tables set up at the front for patrons. If you're in town visiting, go ahead and stop by. You won't be disappointed!
